Dorothy Thorpe-Cain, 83, of Trenton, born Feb 14, 1926, passed away on April 4, 2009. Graduating first from Trenton Central High School and later from Mercer County Community College's Nursing Program, Dorothy worked for 43 years for Trenton State Psychiatric Hospital before retiring as supervisor of nurses. As a member of Union Baptist Church, Trenton, she served on the XYZ, Nurses, PUSH and Missionary Ministries as a participant and as an officer. Additionally, she had been a member of the Eastern Star for 14 years, serving as past associate matron and corresponding secretary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joel and Elizabeth Person; husband, Robert Thorpe; brothers, Samuel Watkins and James Person, and sisters, Iola Copeland, Vara Jackson and Lorena Davis. Mrs. Cain is survived by five children, Robert Thorpe, Lawrence Thorpe, Mrs. Andrea Higdon, Kenneth Cain and Lonnie (and Deborah) Cain; her brother, Rev. Frederick Person; grandchildren, Tracy Whitaker, Deidre Whitaker, James Higdon, Chad Higdon, Shannon Cain, Kimberly Cain, Sandra Saunders, and Robert Thorpe, Jr.; goddaughter, Joyce McNeal; friend, Mrs. D. Gilliard; 12 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Union Baptist Church, 301 Pennington Ave., Trenton, NJ. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township.
