Child's History of Waseca County, published in 1905:
Mr. John Cahill, of Janesville, an early settler, died Thursday night, Sept. 22, 1904. Mr. Cahill had been a great sufferer from rheumatism for many years, but had been in his usual health, going to town and back Thursday. He went to bed at an early hour. As he did not get up at his usual time in the morning, his son-in-law, Thomas Eustis, went to his bedside and was shocked to find him dead.

Mr. Cahill was born in Ireland in 1831. He came to this country in his early manhood, married, and settled on the farm where he lived. His wife and family of eight children survive him.

GOOD MAN PASSES AWAY
John Cahill Dies Suddenly at his Home In Janesville Township
LAID AWAY SATURDAY
Funeral Largely Attended at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

The people of Janesville were surprised to learn on Thursday morning of the death of John Cahill. He was found dead in his bed by his son-in-law, Thomas Eustis.
The deceased was in his usual health. But for years he had suffered greatly from a facial rheumatism which at times totally unfitted him for work. He received medical treatment from physicians all over the country to no purpose. It seems the disease that afflicted him is incurable. With heroic fortitude, he endured the pain and suffering as only one who knows what suffering is. His trouble in the respect brought to him the sincere sympathy of the people here and elsewhere who knew of his affliction. Undoubtedly, his was the primary cause of death.
The deceased was in town on the evening previous to his death. As noted, he was in his usual health. He returned to his home and retired at an early hour. The hour of his death is, of course, unknown.
Mr. Cahill was seventy-three years of age. He was born in Ireland. While yet quite young, he came to this country settling on the farm which has since been his home. After coming here, he was married to Mary Cavanaugh who, together with eight children, survive him.
He was a hardworking industrious citizen who enjoyed the respect and confidence of his fellow men and the esteem of his more intimate acquaintances. On account of sickness, his mission in life was seriously interrupted and he did not accordingly fully realize his expectations or what under other circumstances he might have accomplished.
He was the father of James Cahill, Walter Cahill, William Cahill, the Misses Kittie, Mary and Agnes Cahill and Mrs. Thos. Eustis of this place, Thomas Cahill, John Cahill and Mrs. McGannon of North Dakota.
The funeral was conducted Saturday morning at St. Ann's Catholic Church in this place and the remains interred in the Janesville Catholic Cemetery.
