Deacon Isham Cadenhead died July 25, 1888 at the residence of his son I. R. Cadenhead, in Lee County, Alabama in the 92nd year of his age. He was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, and in 1817 he served for a short time in the military service under Gen. Glasscock, against the Creek Indians, and soon after coming out of service he was married to Miss (Mrs.) Elizabeth Mitchell of Jones County, Georgia, by whom he had several children born unto him, some of whom are yet living. His beloved wife died in 1861. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for fifty-nine years. It was our privilege to visit and talk a little with this aged pilgrim the day before his death. He was blind and hard of hearing, but perfectly rational, and conscious that death was near at hand. So soon as he could understand who I was, he seemed very glad, and when I said to him, "You will soon be home", his whole countenance brightened up with a glow of heavenly radiance while he raised his feeble hands exclaiming with unusual zeal, "Thank God! thank God! All is right with me spiritually; all is right; all is right; thank God! thank God!" Then pausing a little he said, "I have nothing in this world but to suffer, and I want nothing; that hope in Jesus which God gave me fifty-nine years ago is sure. Thank God! thank God!' The next morning he quietly breathed his last breath like one going to sleep. Thursday, July 26th, after a short discourse by the writer, his earthly remains were decently buried at Mount Olive, there to wait till God himself shall descend with a shout and bid the dead in Christ to rise.

*Eliza Catinhead 55F Keeping House Born GA

*Note: On October 12, 1862 Isham Cadenhead married Elizabeth Lamb, widow of Laban Lamb. He apparently moved to Russell County as he and Elizabeth appear on this census. There is some question about the census record as he appears as "Isaac" Cadenhead, but the ages are consistent for Isham and Elizabeth at the time. The agricultural census (also Isaac) shows that he had 40 acres of improved land and 40 acres of unimproved, with a total value of $150. He had one horse and two cows, valued at $90, and a crop yield of 50 bushels of corn. Elizabeth Lamb Cadenhead died June 23, 1883 and was buried by her first husband.
