Born March 19, 1908, in Bluefield, Va., he was a son of the late Thomas Powd and Lorene Neel Coon. He was retired from Fairmont Foods in Bluefield, Va. and a member of the Calvary Baptist Chapel in North Tazewell, Va.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Trula Lawrence Coon; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Margaret) Wilson; one brother, T.P. Coon and two sisters, Mrs. Dan (Flora) Slade and Mrs. Robert (Wanego) Patton.
Survivors: sons, John M. Coon, Jr. and Ronald Lee Coon, both of Tazewell and James E. Coon of Abingdon, Va.; daughters, Mrs. Charles (Laura) Godsey of Prince George, Va., Phyllis Pruett of Bluefield and Brenda Coon of Granite Falls, N.C.; brother, Jack Coon of Princeton; sisters, Mrs. William (Lena) Bowles, Mrs. Nell Fulcher and Mrs. Wally (Lorene) Rangeo, all of Bluefield, Va., and Mrs. Bill (Lucille) Reynolds of Princeton; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Chapel in North Tazewell with the Rev. Chuck Trent officiating.
Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Bluefield-Tazewell Road.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
