George Washington Byrum, son of, William and Sarah Ann Stevens Byrum.

George Washington Byrum married Miss Minerva J. Cramblit on June 13, 1886.

George Washington Byrum, eldest son of William and Sarah Ann Stevens Byrum, was born near Dudley, November 1, 1862, and died at the St. Joseph hospital August 29, 1926, age 63 years, 9 months and 29 days. He spent his entire life a resident of Wapello County.

Mr. Byrum was married to Miss Minerva J. Crambilt, June 13, 1886. In 1914 they moved to Chillicothe where Mr. Byrum conducted a coal and lumber business for six years. In 1920 they came to Ottumwa where Mr. Byrum had charge of the Hawkeye Oil station at Church street and Richmond avenue, and continued at his work until a short time before his death.

Surviors are his wife and the following six children; Joseph S., John Leslie, Marshall, Mrs. Bessie Miller, Mrs. Ruth Warner, all of Ottumwa and Mrs. Leona McElroy, who lives at the old home farm near Chillicothe. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are: Ed. of Ottumwa, Will of Lead, S.D.; Mrs. Nina Baer of Spearfish, S.D. and Miss Maud Byrum of Ottumwa. Twelve grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Byrum was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He joined at the Columbia church on the Chillicothe circuit thirty years ago, and on coming to Ottumwa, placed his membership with the Willard Street church.

Funeral services were held at the Willard Street church Tuesday afternoon, August 31, at 2 o'clock in charge was Rev. L.H.Lannig, pastor of the church. The three sons and the sons-in-laws were the pall bearers. Internment was made in Shaul cemetery.
