DAVID JOSEPH BYRNES Age 84, passed away on April 9, 2012 in Riverside after a brief illness. He was born October 20, 1927 in Connersville, Indiana to David Sr. and Eleanor Talley Byrnes. David attended different elementary and secondary schools in the eastern US but graduated from Visalia Union High School in 1944, where he met Betty Ruth Hagler. After graduation, he served in the US Navy until his honorable discharge in 1952. He and Betty married in 1946, and he graduated from the University of Missouri in 1950 with a degree in Journalism. After residing many years in Visalia, Betty and David moved to Riverside and established the Byrnes Company, a local graphic arts and typesetting business. He also enrolled in the PhD program in Economics at the University of California in hopes of achieving a life-long dream of doing active research in this field. He established his own non-profit group, The Sequoyah Institute of Civil Values and was deeply concerned about promoting civil, moral and cultural values for current and future generations. David was a self-taught and very accomplished carpenter and created many wonderful pieces for family use. David was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years who died in 2011. He is survived by their six daughters: Kathleen Tucker (Mike), Victoria Long (Buck), Leslie Vasquz (Ed), Patricia Allen (Duane), Roberta Fuhr, and Andrea Cedergreen (Rich). He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Bailey who resides in Oklahoma City. David was grandfather to eleven and great-grandfather to five. Private family services were held April 20 at the Riverside National Cemetery. The family asks that any remembrances be made to the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center in Riverside. Arrangements provided by Walker Family Funeral Services, Corona, CA (951) 898-0452. Published in Press-Enterprise on May 3, 2012.
