Jim, 76, of Port St. Lucie, FL, died at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Torrington, CT, and resided in Port St. Lucie for 27 years, coming from Wolcott, CT.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean War and received several decorations, citations and medals.
Jim was a professional bowler before retirement.
He was a member of St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Marie (Barbieri) Byrnes; son, James D. (Gale) Byrnes Jr.; daughters, Sharon (Dennis)Plant and Kathy (John) LaFrance; sister, Jessie Crocetto; grandchildren, Jennifer, Krista, Melissa, James III, Matthew & Kristina; 8 great- grandchildren and several nieces, nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Edna Byrnes, sister, Jennie VanDole and his nephew Dr. Richard Crocetto.
He was a member of Connecticut State and Florida State Bowlers Association Hall of Fame.
He was a member of the Lions Club in St. Lucie West, Kiwanis Club, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Korean Wars Veterans Association.
Jim was dedicated to raising money through bowling for handicapped children, blind, disabled and all of those in need.
SERVICES: Visitation: 4-8PM, Friday, September 10 at Forest Hills Funeral Homes, Byrd, Young & Prill Chapel in Port St. Lucie. Mass of Christian Burial: 9:30AM, Saturday, September 11, at St. Lucie Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie.
