Marion Bennett, 100, of Edison, died Saturday May 23, 2009, at McCarrick Care Center, Somerset. Marion was born and raised in New Brunswick and moved to Edison in 1933 with her late husband, Theodore Bennett who died in 1964. She was employed by Bell Atlantic for 47 years, retiring in 1974; she remained an active member of the Telephone Pioneers until her move to McCarrick. A long-time parishioner of Guardian Angels Church, Edison, Marion was active for many years in the church's Altar and Rosary Society, as well as the Edison Senior Citizen's Club. She organized bus trips to Atlantic City, ran the church's bingo events, and volunteered wherever she was needed. She was also an avid traveler who was ready to go at a moments notice.
She will be sorely missed by her extended family who have benefited greatly from her kind and generous nature. Marion was predeceased by her husband, Theodore; her parents, Catherine and Michael Byrnes; her brothers, Myles and Thomas Byrnes; and her sister, Gertrude Connolly. She is survived by her sister, Josephine Selby of Neshanic Station; her nieces, Marion Torrone of Sea Girt, Catherine Smith of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Gertrude Wasilishen of Interlaken, Patricia Wright of Spring Lake Heights, Barbara Plantec and Catherine Frey, both of Florida; her nephew, Andrew Connolly of Brielle; her sister-in-law, Stella Bynes of Florida; her friend, James Sulliman of Abilene, Texas; and many loving great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, May 28 at Boylan Funeral Home, 10 Wooding Ave., Edison, followed by a 9 a.m. mass at Guardian Angels R.C. Church, Edison. Interment will be at St. Peters Cemetery, New Brunswick.
