Teresa Barrett, daughter to late Dean and Dorine Byrd, of Joplin, Mo., went to be with her LORD and Savior on Oct. 24, 2008, at the age of 53 years old. Cause of death was complications during surgery.
Teresa Marie (Byrd, McCarthy, Cowan) Barrett born Oct. 25, 1955, in Los Angeles County, Calif., lived in California, Nevada and North Carolina, but deep in her heart, she called Las Vegas, Nev., home. At the age of 35, she moved with her family to Las Vegas, where she was a Blackjack dealer at the Showboat Casino, marrying Jack Steven Barrett shortly after. He was always there for her, thick and thin, it was Jack and Terry. She's remembered as the families' soap opera lover and always center of attention. She loved to drink coffee while watching her soaps and then enjoy a glass of wine in the evenings. It's fair to say some of the wildest memories stem from those nights ‘enjoying' time together over wine.
She leaves behind her four children, Shirley M. (McCarthy) Woodruff (36). of Joplin, Mo., Kelly Lynnette (Cowan) Perez (30), of Joplin, Michelle Marie (Cowan) Dotson (26), of Raeford, N.C., and her only son, Joshua Dustin Cowan (22), of Raeford; seven grandbabies survive her as well, Ashley Marie Cowan-Parker (20), Jordan Isaiah Woodruff (5), Stephanie Rose Perez (11), Laurie Joanne Perez (9), Briana Michelle Dotson (8), Aaron David Dotson (6) and a baby Cowan on the way, courtesy of Dusty. Two brothers survive her as well, Ray Dean Byrd (56), of Branson, Mo., and Robert Darrel Byrd (44), of Kansas City, Mo.
Graveside services will be Monday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. in Park Cemetery, Carthage, Mo., with family providing the eulogy. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. Friends may leave online condolences for the family at www.parkermortuary.com
