Mr. Bynum attended school and worked on his family's farm In Hertford County. He served his country during World War II, earning American Theater, Eamet Campaign, Good Conduct, and Victory Medals. Honorably discharged, he returned to Hertford County and united in matrimony with Annie Marie Cooper.
He relocated with his family to Long Branch, New Jersey in 1959, united with Second Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. C.P. Williams and served faithfully in the Deacon's Ministry.
Deacon Bynum was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Annie Marie; one son, Bishop Paul E. Bynum (Carolyn) of Arizona; three daughters, Patricia Stephenson (Thomas) of Mississippi, Bettie Smith of Neptune, and Thomasine Shuler of Maryland; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bradford Bynum (Magnolia) of N.C.; three sisters, Nell Everett, Margaret Batton, and Lula Bynum, all of N.C.
