Mrs John H Berry died recently at her home in New Hampton after an illness of a long time. Funeral services took place at the Free Baptist Church on Tuesday and burial was in Green Grove Cemetery. >The Ashland Item, March 1, 1899, p5.

In losing Mrs John H Berry from our midst, our town has suffered a most severe loss; one that will be keenly felt. A Christian for more than twenty years, her consistent life and unselfish devotion to duty has been an inspiration to all who knew her. As Clara Busiel, at 16 years of age, she married John H Berry of New Hampton and bore him ten children, five of whom are living Ed Berry, Dora, Ada, John and Louise. A mother who realized the sacred duties of home life, one who worked early and late to give her children every advantage of education and refinement, she never failed to relieve the wants of the poor or unfortunate, and was a ministering angel by the bed of pain. Her last sickness, long and painful, was marked with fortitude and Christian resignation. Cheerful and patient, she spent and was spent in her Master's service. She was, at the request of many friends, buried from the Free Baptist Church that she had loved and served so well, her pastor, J Franklin Babb, officiating. Music was furnished by a quartette: Mesdames Carey and Morrill and Messrs. Blake and Robie. Horace Berry of Boston, a brother of the bereaved husband sang in a most impressive manner, "I Cannot Always Trace the Way." The floral offering were numerous and beautiful. All arrangements for the funeral were made by Mrs Berry prior to her death. The sympathy of the town is extended to the sorrowing family, who so faithfully cared for the wife and mother to the last. >The Ashland Item, March 18, 1899, p5.
