Bernard Fair Buxton, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 9, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, at Iles Funeral Homes, Westover Chapel in Des Moines. A private family committal service will be held at a later date at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa.
Bernard was born the son of Lloyd A. and Lillian Fair Buxton on June 14, 1927 in Creston, Iowa. He was a 1945 graduate of Creston High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Iowa, where he earned his bachelors degree. Bernard was an army veteran during the Korean conflict, until he was honorably discharged. On August 14, 1950, he was united in marriage to Patricia Lavone "Pat" Sellwood at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, three children were born, Barbara, Michael and Robert. Bernard was formerly employed as a Systems Analyst within the computer industry. Bernard also enjoyed working with his hands, doing 'handy-mans' work; and spending time reading and walking. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Pat Buxton of Urbandale; two sons, Michael (Donna) Buxton of Villa Park, CA and Robert (Linda) Buxton of Kansas City, MO; one step-granddaughter, Shelby Leoning of New York City, NY; and one granddaughter, Rachael Buxton of Columbia, MO. Bernard was preceded into eternal life by his parents; and daughter, Barbara Sue Buxton.
The family has requested that any memorial contributions may be made to either Animal Rescue League of Iowa or a favorite charity of Donor's Choice.
