Eleanor P. (Butterfield) Bowles died July 20, 2011, in Temple Terrace, Florida. She was born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, daughter of Raymond and Catherine (Spaulding) Butterfield. She grew up in Lunenburg, MA and graduated from Lunenburg High School in 1942. She was active in sports especially Basketball, receiving honors for the highest single season scoring record for girls basketball. During WWII she was employed by the American Red Cross at Ft. Devens, MA. While working there she met her husband Don, a Minneapolis, Minnesota resident and a Lieutenant in the Army. They married in September 1945 and lived in Lunenburg and Fitchburg until Don re-entered the Army in 1948. He maintained Lunenburg as his home of record until retirement in 1964 when they settled in Vermont, where she worked as a secretary to the Dean of Students at Vermont College in Montpelier. They relocated to Maryland where she worked for the American Red Cross and then on to Warren, Maine where she worked at the Georges Valley High School in Thomaston. In 1995 they retired and moved south to Kingston, NC and then on to Leesburg, Florida in 1997. Don passed away in 2000 and Eleanor moved to Temple Terrace, Florida to be near family. Eleanor lived a full life of adventures, traveling to foreign countries and seeing her family grow to 8 grand children and 13 great grand children. She is survived by her daughter, Donna K. Hopkins; Warren, New Hampshire, sons Scott Bowles; Temple Terrace, Florida and Paul Bowles; Northfield, Vermont. Grave side services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia August 10, 2011 at 0900 hours.
