MRS. A. R. BECKER
Mrs. A. R. Becker, well known Chariton lady, died at her home in this city on Tuesday evening, May 16, after an extended illness.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul H. Hicks, were held at the First Methodist church Friday afternoon at three o'clock and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
Jane E. Becker, oldest of seven children of John L. and Jane E. Butler, was born in Osceola, Iowa, on Sept. 13, 1870. She joined the Methodist church in Osceola when a young girl and was a member of the choir for many years.
She was united in marriage to Chauncey Monroe Dunbar on Jan. 23, 1896, at Osceola, Iowa, and to this union two children were born, both of whom are living. They are Robert Dunbar, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Mrs. John S. Brechtel, of Weldon, Iowa.
They were living in the west at the time of Mr. Dunbar's death on July 29, 1910, and his body was laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Antelope, Oregon. Later, Mrs. Dunbar and her two children returned to Osceola where they made their home with her parents.
On the 16th of June, 1912, she was united in marriage to A. R. Becker and they made their home in Osceola until October 24, 1929, when they came to Chariton where they have since resided.
Mrs. Becker was a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and Rebekah orders and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was appointed representative of the Grand Chapter of Saskatchewan by the Grand Chapter of Iowa Jan. 9, 1922 and served until Dec. 31, 1924.
She was active and enjoyed doing things for her family. She was always a lover of flowers and shared them freely with her friends. She was never happier than when she was making something for her children and grandchildren.
Her father, mother, two sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, two children, two granddaughters and one grandson, one brother, John Butler, of Lacona, and many other relatives and a host of friends.
