Atlanta Constitution - 6/14/1901 - The friends of MRs. I. (Irene) H.(Howard) Butler, Mrs. S. J. Gillespie, Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Smith, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Harnesberger and Mr. and MRs. Early Gillespie are invited to attend the funeral of Mrs. I. H. Butler at her late residence, 678 South Pryor Street, today, Friday at 2 pm. Interment at Hollywood.
Mrs. I. H. Butler, for many years a resident of Atlanta, died last night at 10:30 pm at her residence, 678 South Pryor street, after having been an invalid for nearly seventeen months. Mrs. Butler fell and broke her hip and from that accident came the illness from which she never recovered. She was seventy-eight years old and was the grandmother of Early Gillespie, of the firm of Carter & Gillespie. The funeral services will take place at the residence at 2 p.m. today and the interment will be at Hollywood Cemetery.
Married to Isaac H. Butler. Where he is buried is unknown. He is shown on the 1880 census for Pike County, Georgia. He died sometime before 1900.
This couple's children were: Amanda (b. 1840) Sarah J.(b. 1844), Elizabeth (b. 1844), Mary (b. 1846), Martha (b. 1853) and Laura Butler (b. 1862). Mary evidently died young as she is only on the 1850 Monroe County, Georgia census - she is shown as 4 years of age.
