Allan Keith Butler, born on September 18, 1928 in Ogden, Utah, passed away into eternity on January 6, 2014 in Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer and Mable Butler; brother, Jerry Butler; infant brother, Spencer Butler and sister, Dorene Bush.

Beloved husband of 63 years, he is survived by his wife, Patricia Jensen. Also survived by sons, Dr. David Butler and wife Lisa, son, Dr. Kevin Butler and wife Teri; daughter, Annette Hruska and husband David; and daughter, Suzanne Bunker and husband Jeff.

Allan attended elementary school in Ogden Utah, and graduated from Ogden High School in 1946. After high school, he was recruited to play baseball for a farm team for the Cincinnati Reds where he learned to turn a double play by a future Houston Astros named Johnny Temple. Allan loved baseball.

At the age of 16, he and 50 of his classmates, who had been together since grade school, joined the U.S. army. He spent his Army career at Fort Ord California while most of his friends went to Korea. At the age of 17, he was a drill sergeant and this gentle soul was making his men bounce quarters off their well made beds! He returned to Ogden where he attended Weber College for a short time and on to the University of Utah where he continued his baseball until he realized that baseball would not be his career path. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. After graduating from U of U in business, Allan was called into the reserves through the R.O.T.C. where he spent two years as a 2nd Lt. in the Air Force. He was stationed at MacDill AFB Strategic Air Base Command.

Returning to Utah, Allan was employed by Continental Oil Company and eventually transferred to Houston, Texas in 1960. He took retirement after 24 years, where he went out on his own as an employment recruiter.

Allan met and married Patricia Jensen in 1950 while in college. Together, they raised four wonderful children, David, Kevin, Annette, and Suzanne. After decades of happy years of marriage, he leaves a legacy of 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and still counting.

Allan lived his life as a valiant, faithful, member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served many years in leadership roles, including 7 years as Bishop. He also served with Pat as temple workers in the Houston Temple for over 10 years. He loved his family, church and the world of sports, especially his great love of golf.

President Gordon B. Hinckley wrote, "All of us have to deal with death at one time or another, but to have in one's heart a solid conviction concerning the reality of eternal life is to bring a sense of peace in an hour of tragedy and loss that can come from no other source under the heavens."

Allan was a gentle, loving soul and was loved by everyone who knew him. He touched many lives with his kindness. He was a wonderful example, a great dad, grandfather "PomPom", and great-grandfather. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock to eight o'clock p.m., Friday, January 10th at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home at 6700 Ferris street. Funeral service will be held at 11'oclock a.m. on Saturday, January 11th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 5531 Beechnut, Houston, TX 77096.

Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
