Cherril Benson Butler of Spring Lake, Utah, age 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at her home following a long illness.
Cherril was born January 10, 1928 in Spring City, Utah, to Nels Rudger and Viola Roundy Benson. She was raised in Salt Lake City where she graduated from West High School in 1945. Cherril was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a mission to the West Central States Mission from January 1951 to August 1952 where she met the love of her life, Kenneth D. Butler. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 13, 1953 and lived in Spring Lake. Cherril was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She taught their children the divine blessing of work and the principle of self reliance. She left a legacy of love, and faith. Her husband and children were the focus and joy of her life. She was a devoted and faithful member of her church and served in many callings in teaching and leadership capacities. She also served a mission to Florida with her husband and worked with him in the Provo Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth, son Joseph (Brigitte), son Ray (Mary Alice), son Kent (Shauna), daughter Susan Boughton, daughter Linda (David) Hirst, 24 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister Mary Jean (Carl) Allen, brother Nels, and sister-in-law, (Elmo) Koral K. Benson. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 18th at 11 a.m. at the Spring Lake Ward Chapel, 12625 South Spring Lake Road. Viewings will be held on Wednesday night from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary in Payson, 587 South 100 West, and at the Spring Lake Ward Chapel on Thursday from 9:30- 10:45 a.m. Interment will be held at the Payson City Cemetery.
