James W. Buskirk died at about 38 years old in 1864, probably in the Civil War. His wife was Adeline Eastburn (born about 1827 in Kentucky). She applied for a civil war widow's pension on May 16, 1864...so he died somewhere before then or on that date.

They had 8 children that Adeline Eastburn Buskirk apparently raised by herself somehow.

The children were:
1. John L.(born 1847 in Illinois)
2. Mansfield Eastburn "Eastburn"(born about 1850 in Illinois
3. Nancy Marcia (born about 1851 in Indiana)
4. William Franklin (born about 1853 in Indiana, died 1937 in Illinois)
5. Rosalie (born about 1857 in Indiana)
6. Lucinda (born 1859 in Indiana)
7. James E. (born 1861 in Indiana)
8.Edgar (born 1865 in Indiana)(Adeline must have been pregnant when her husband died, since Edgar was born after James W. died)

In the 1870 census in Arcola, Douglas, Illinois, Adeline Buskirk has the 8 children with only herself seeming to raise them. In the 1880 census there is her living alone with 6 of her original 8 children: John L., William Franklin, Rosalie, Lucinda, James E. and Edgar. Unknown how she raised so many children alone for so long. Mansfield Eastburn and Nancy Marcia are missing in 1880. They may have moved out/married or died...
