Byron Robert Busby, 81, of 313 Washington St. passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Pekin Manor.

Born Aug. 4, 1927, in Pekin to Robert and Anna Elizabeth (Greenburg) Busby, he married Lorene E. Royse on Nov. 27, 1959, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Valerie E. (David) Slater of Peoria; one son, Brent A. Busby of Chicago; one sister, Melba Jane (Phillip) Kennington of Sandy, Utah; and two brothers, Stanley Busby of San Diego, Calif., and Charles (Glenda) Busby of Tomah, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one infant brother.

Byron was a World War II Navy veteran.

A graduate of the University of Illinois, he worked for Caterpillar Inc. as a metallurgist for more than 40 years, retiring in 1992.

His graveside funeral will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
