Mrs. Barnhardt, a Charlotte native, was a Central High School graduate. She attended Agnes Scott College and was a UNC Charlotte graduate. At her church, she was an elder and a member of the Women of the Church. She was a Friendship Trays volunteer and a member of the Junior League and the Delholm Service League of the Mint Museum.
Survivors are her husband, Thomas; sons, Thomas L. Barnhardt, Robert Barnhardt, Lewis Barnhardt; daughter, Mrs. Frances Hatling of Springfield, Vt.; four grandchildren; stepmother, Mrs. Lewis Burwell of Greenville, S.C.; stepbrothers, Lewis Burwell Jr. of Chicago, Robert Burwell of Southern Pines, Henry Burwell of Greenville, S.C.; stepsister, Mrs. Lynn Abraham of Clemson, S.C.
