BATTLE GROUND - Howard Eugene "Gene" Burton, 50, died Monday, July 17, 2000. Born Dec. 27, 1949, in Lafayette, he was a 1968 graduate of Southwestern High School. He married Brenda D. Bryant on March 24, 1968, in Locust Grove, IN, and she survives.
Mr. Burton, a lifelong area resident, he was a mechanic at Anthrop Shell for seven years, previously working at Ross Gear Tool and Dye Co., and Eli Lilly Co. He was a member of Lafayette Moose Lodge and Lafayette United Auto Workers.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Kelly Summerfield (husband Dean) of Clarks Hill and Melissa Burton of West Lafayette; his mother, Ona Burton of Lafayette; a brother, Leroy Burton, also of Lafayette; two sisters, Darlene York of Franklin and Juanita Wycoff of Lafayette; and seven grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Howard "Red" Burton.
