She was born July 6, 1934 in Afton, Wyoming, a daughter to Winfield Ballantyne and Harriet Almira Peterson Burton. She was the second of eleven brothers and sisters in her family. She lived and attended school in Afton, and then she continued her education at Brigham Young University and LDS Business College.
On March 30, 1956 she married Olof H. Hokanson for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they were blessed with eight children - 2 daughters and 6 sons.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints and served faithfully in many callings including Relief Society, Primary, Scouting, and as a Visiting Teacher.
