AUBURN - Betty L. Burtle, 97, of Auburn died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

She was born May 26, 1911, in Lebanon, Ky., the daughter of Walter John and Minnie Florence (Roots) Timmons. She married John C. Burtle on Jan. 10, 1930, in Chicago, by Father Sherdon; John preceded her in death in 1996 after celebrating their 66th wedding anniversary.

In addition, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Marcella Burtle-Cox; her parents; three sisters, Mildred Schuster, Lucille (Lucy) Baker and Irene Timmons; and four brothers, Jessie, Roy, Robert and Cleaver John Timmons.

She attended Pleasant Hill School and received a certificate from Brown's Business College in Chicago. While in Chicago, she managed a Fanny Mae Candy store.

She was a resident of Glenarm and Auburn for most of her life. During her life she was a Girl Scout leader, den mother, Sun paper representative, 4-H leader and involved with attending all sport activities involving her grandchildren.

While able, she was a devoted member of St. Benedict Church (Holy Cross Parish) and St. Anne's. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. Her greatest treasure in life was her family.

Surviving are six daughters, Darlene Burtle (fiance, Ferdinand Fulgenzi) of Auburn, Linda (Don) Walcher of Springfield, Karen Burtle (Joe Hendricks) of Virden, Diana Holmes of Auburn, Carolyn (Kevin) Ramey of Springfield and Pamela (Mike) Burge of Rochester; two sons, John Edward (Dixie) Burtle of Florida and Richard Cox of Henry; 11 grandchildren: Tamara (Jeff) Nemecek, Christopher (Jessica) Walcher, Lyndsay Walcher, John P. Walcher, Brian Keirs, Jason (Melissa) Keirs, James Michael Riegor, Jennifer Riegor, John E. Burtle Jr., Jean (John) Wood and Christine (Steve) Knapp; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; stepgrandchildren, David (Pam) Monetti, Mary Monetti, Lisa Monetti, Paul (Monica) Monetti, Starlet Dawn (Doug) Cason, Joseph Monetti, Melissa (Bob) England and Eugene (Rhonda) Monetti; 17 step-great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: LaDonna Freymuth-Ferando of Springfield, Ethel Mae Workman of Texas and Ilene Morris of Louisiana; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008, at Bramley Funeral Home in Auburn. Funeral mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2008 at St. Benedicts Church, Holy Cross Parish in Auburn, with the Rev. Kevin Laughery officiating.

Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Glenarm.
