She was born in Albany to Bernice Marie (Harrison) and Alonzo Eben Hays. She spent the majority of her childhood in Yachats and graduated from Waldport High School in 1947.
She married her high school sweetheart, Delmar L. Burt, on Feb. 13, 1948, at her mother's home in Yachats. They lived in Waldport until moving to Salmon, Idaho, in 1954. In 1957 they moved to Lebanon, where she lived the rest of her life.
She was a homemaker until her children were in school, after which she was employed by Sprouse Reitz, Durlam's Bakery, and eventually retired from Albertson's bakery. After her retirement she enjoyed working as a volunteer at the Lebanon hospital and for the Linn County elections board with many of her good friends. She has been an active member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church for over 50 years and was a cherished member of her church family.
Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family. It was obvious from the stories and pictures she shared with everyone just how much she cherished them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson-in-law Todd French.
