Eva Lue Hassell, 73, of Elk Ridge, Utah passed away February, 6, 2013 in Provo, Utah. Eva was born May 30, 1939 in Springville, Utah to Herbert and Ruth Burrows. She graduated from Springville High School where she was a member of the acapella choir and excelled at shorthand, winning a State Championship.

She moved from Springville to Salt Lake City to work as a secretary and received a lot of joy in her service. She met and married, Gary Nielson, from Lynndyl, Utah. They were married for three years when he passed away.

After his passing she enrolled at BYU where she met her current husband Wayne Lamar Hassell. They were married August 28, 1963 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Service was an integral part of Eva's life. An active member in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many capacities including: Primary, Young Women, and teaching early morning Seminary. She set a perfect example to her children as a visiting teacher. She never missed an opportunity to visit those who were in her care. Eva also served as a temple worker in the Albuquerque New Mexico Temple. One of the great accomplishments and joys in her life was having the privilege of serving two missions in Russia with her husband. She deeply loved the Russian people and the language. She was a great teacher and writer and had two articles published in the Ensign.

Most of Eva's married life was spent in New Mexico in the cities of Los Alamos, Cuba, and Bluewater. She played a crucial role in organizing the very successful 100 year celebration for the town of Bluewater. Prior to the celebration she spent countless hours preparing an historical calendar detailing the history and people of Bluewater. Proceeds from the sale of that book were used to finance most of the celebration.

The love of her life was her family where she enjoyed being a mother and grandmother. She is proud of her beautiful family which includes: her husband, Wayne Lamar Hassell; her children, Kim (Jeffrey) Hart, Kris [deceased], Kerry [deceased] (Lenora Dossey) Hassell, Clarke Hassell, Kyle (Janet) Hassell, David Hassell, Michael (Betty) Hassell, Tanya (Bryan) Borough, Trent (Ronna) Hassell, Anna (James) Knotts, and Martin (Mary) Hassell; 37 grandchildren; siblings: Ila Pay, Marion Everett, Clark Burrows, and Herb Burrows.

She was preceded in death by her first husband as well as two children: Kris and Kerry, and siblings: Enid, Sharon and Bliss.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Elk Ridge 5th Ward, 450 Elk Ridge Dr., Elk Ridge, Utah. Friends may call on the family Tuesday, February 12, 2013 from 6 til 8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork, Utah, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and at the church from 9:45 til 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
