It is unclear whether John Burroughs married once or twice. There is no definitive source. His wife was either Elizabeth, maiden name unknown, or Mary, maiden name unknown, possibly Jennings, or both.
John and his wife/wives had 13 children together: Jeremiah about 1709, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Hannah, Isaac, John, Martha, Mary, Philip, Sarah, Jemima and Joseph (twins) in 1725 and James in 1735. The birthyears of the others are unknown.
"Genealogy of Early Settlers in Trenton and Ewing 'Old Hunterdon County,' New Jersey," by E.F. & W.S. Cooley, Baltimore: General Publishing Co., 1977 also lists Cornelius and Henry as children.
The family lived in Trenton (now Ewing) Twp., Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., New Jersey.
It is assumed, but not confirmed, that John's wife was buried in First Presbyterian Church of Ewing Cemetery. Her husband had been a founder of the church, and they lived nearby.
