Virginia Burroughs Anderson of the 1500 block of Ashland Ave. died peacefully Feb. 9, 2001, in a Virginia Beach nursing facility with her son by her side. Mrs. Anderson was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. She was the sole surviving child of the late Charles and Nancy Hughes Burroughs and was the widow of Robert Lee Anderson, Jr., to whom she was married for 55 years. She was a life member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, and a former president of the Women of the Church and was active in the church circle. She was a 1928 graduate of Maury High School. She formerly worked as a bookkeeper for Ballard Fish and Oyster prior to devoting herself to her church and family.
Mrs. Anderson was a former member of the Winona Garden Club and an avid gardener. The jonquils and camellias that she planted in her garden years ago are emerging now for spring as a testament to her love and care.
Survivors include her son, Robert L. Anderson III of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews.
A church service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, at Knox Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Stephen M. Ratliff. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
