Kenneth Arnold Borrill, 78, Clear Lake, died Sunday, May 29, 2011, at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.
A funeral service for Kenneth will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Swaledale, with Pastor John P. Scherb officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by members of the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
The family of Kenneth Borrill has requested that those wishing to give a memorial in his memory may wish to consider memorial contributions be made to the Kenneth Borrill memorial fund.
Kenneth Arnold Borrill was born on July 29, 1932, in Little York, IN., the son of George Earl and Verna Mae (Arnold) Borrill. Kenneth graduated from Ventura High School with the class of 1950. Kenneth was inducted into the U.S. Air Force on February 2, 1951, in Mason City, and served his country honorably and faithfully until his honorable discharge on February 2, 1955. From 1955 until 1982, Kenneth worked for the Clear Lake Bakery, and worked at the bakery for Hy-Vee East and West in Mason City from 1985, until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Mary Carmody on August 10, 1958, at the Evangelical United Brethren, (United Methodist) in Ventura, and to this union they were blessed with four children; Pam, Kevin, Jeffrey, and Tim.
Kenneth loved fishing, hunting, golfing and shot a hole in one at the Clear Lake Golf course. Kenneth also liked to talk about his service in the Air Force, listening to inspirational music, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Viking fan, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
Kenneth's faith and his church family were very important to him. He was a very active member of the United Methodist Church in Swaledale, teaching Sunday school in Ventura, was Sunday school superintendent in charge of the Christmas program. Kenneth was also president of the fishing club in Clear Lake from 1986 until 1990, and he and Bob Jensen were instrumental in starting the Walleye Classic fishing tournament.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Borrill of Clear Lake; his children, Pam Skaanning of Madison, WI., Kevin (Robin) Borrill of Clear Lake, Jeffrey (Sandy) Borrill of Ames, and Tim (Mindy) Borrill of Ames; six grandchildren, Elysia Skaanning, Amanda, Brittany, Sidney, Selena, and Caleb Borrill; his mother-in-law, Bernice Carmody of Mason City; three brothers-in-law, Denny (Mary) Carmody of Clear Lake, Pastor Mike (Janis) Carmody of Ft. Dodge, and Elton Miller of East Alton, MO, two sisters-in-law, Sharon Carmody of Mason City, and Clarice Borrill of Clear Lake; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ray and Harold Borrill; two grandchildren, Jason Skaanning, and Taylor Borrill; a sister, Barb Miller, and his father-in-law, Lloyd Carmody.
