MALAD, Id. - George Jay Burrie, 76, of Malad, passed away Sunday, August 8, 1999, at home of complications due to cancer.

Jay was born March 12, 1923 in Logan, Utah, a son of George Henry and Reta May McCulloch Burrie. He was raised in Daniels Valley, Idaho and Logan, Utah. He attended schools in Malad and graduated from Logan High School. He also attended Utah State University.

He married Viva Leone Funk on November 29, 1943, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Working side by side with his wife and children, he was happiest tending to the land and his cattle and horses. Jay was also active in the community of Malad and Oneida County. He served as a County Commissioner from 1978-1984, on the Translator Board. Fair Board, Hospital Board, ASCS Committee and FHA Committee. He also served for twenty years on the Oneida County Search and Rescue and until recently was a volunteer at the new I-15 Visitors Center.

Jay will be remembered most as being a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather and the greatest of neighbors, who always was available to help anyone in need.
