KERRVILLE — Bobby Joe Burrer, 80, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at the VA hospital.
He was born on May 25, 1929, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Milton and Rosie Burrer. Bobby attended Tivy High School until he joined the U.S. Army in 1949 and served until 1950. He then served in the U.S. Marines from 1950 until 1955 during the Korean War. Bobby was stationed in Panmunjom area, where they guarded the prisoners of war. He was part of the First Tank Battalion in the Marine Corps.
Bobby married Margaret Hughes on June 29, 1957, in Kerrville. He has been in Kerrville for more than 52 years and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 1480. Bobby loved to fish, watch all sports and old movies, and he loved his family. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Burrer of Kerrville; two sons, Bobby C. Burrer and wife, Kriss, of Reno, Nev.., and William L. Burrer of Kerrville; two daughters, Diana Burrer and Radonna Chambless, both of Kerrville; brother, Delbert Burrer and wife, Thelrue, of Ingram; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who love him and will miss him.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Wright's Funeral Parlor, with the family greeting guests from 6 to 8 p.m.
Military graveside services with military honors will be at 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
