June 5, 1934 - Carroll Daily - Mrs. Charles Braun, mother of Mrs. Henry Plahn and resident of Carroll county for 63 years, died last night at 11:50 o'clock at the home of her daughter on South West street. She had been in ill health for several years and suffered another paralytic stroke last week. During all the years of her ill health when she was bedfast, she was constantly cared for by her daughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Huffman Funeral Home at 2 o'clock and at St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2:30 o'clock on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. A.J. Mueller will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot at the city cemetery.
Friederike Marie Burr was born March 7, 1851 in the province Pommern village Spantckow, Germany. She came to this country with her parents when she was 18 years of age and they located at Williamsport, Penn. She was united in marriage to Charles Braun on Sept. 27, 1870. In March 1871 the couple came to Carroll and since that made this their home. Mr. Braun preceded his wife in death by 23 years.
Mrs. Braun was a member of the Lutheran church all her life, having been baptized and confirmed in Germany. She was one of the first members of the Lutheran church in Carroll and her home was always a stopping place for itinerant preachers and students. She was very active in all forms of church work.
With her daughter. Mrs. Plahn, she is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Paul Vehling of Kansas City, Mo., and five sons: Albert, Charles, and William of Milwaukee, Wis.; George of Roach, Mo.; and Fred of Cedar Rapids. She also leaves 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
