Arthur Dean Burr, age 80, of Sioux City passed away under the care of Hospice and his family on Saturday December 14, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City with Pastors Russell Senstad and David Zirpel officiating. Interment in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites by the United States Army will follow the service. Art was born on December 4, 1933 in Bonesteel, South Dakota, the last of 11 children, to John and Lydia (Jenner) Burr. He attended and graduated from Burke High School with the class of 1952. Art then served his country in the United States Army being discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage with Derla Jean Yada on January 4, 1956 in Rockham, South Dakota. He continued his education by attending the University of South Dakota at Vermillion, later transferring to South Dakota State University at Brookings, where he graduated with his degree in engineering. Art and Jean moved throughout the Midwest often during their first 10 years of marriage before beginning their own business located in Sergeant Bluff.
During his retirement, Art enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with his family. He loved to fish in Sharon's Outfitting in Lake Kississing, Manitoba, and South Padre Island Texas. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Art's life will be lovingly remembered by his family which includes his wife of 58 years Jean of Sioux City, his four daughters: Lori FitzGerald and her husband Shaune of Laporte, MN., Pamela Davies and her husband David of Sioux City, Deanne Scott and her husband Dan of Erie, PA. and Lisa Richardson and her husband Derek, of Sioux City. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Amanda Hansen, Michelle Modlin, Robert Horkey, Stephanie Davies, Eric Horkey, Jana Thole, Megan FitzGerald, Joseph Scott, and Paul Scott, along with his nine great-grandchildren: Tayler Modlin, Devon Hansen, Addisen Freeman, Brayden Modlin, Brandon Hansen, Carter Modlin, Jude Thole, Camden Doscher and Claire Thole. Art is also survived by two sisters Elise Berg, and Sally Wilkerson and over 30 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Janet Lee, and siblings Edwin Burr, Christina Barber, John Burr, Ruth Smith, Lena Barker, Willis Burr, and Fred Burr.
