Anne Burr Dunn Bridgers, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2007.
Anne was born on November 27, 1924, the only child of Frederick Stanley Burr and Anne Cumming Burr.
She grew up on South 2nd Street and attended Tileston School and New Hanover High School. After graduating from St. Mary's College in Raleigh, she returned to Wilmington where she lived for the remainder of her 83 years.
Anne was married to Murdoch MacRae Dunn (Muck) for 27 wonderful years. They had 3 sons, Murdoch MacRae Dunn, Jr. (Crae), Frederick Burr Dunn (Freddy) and Preston Cumming Dunn.
After Muck's death in 1974, Anne was a widow for 23 years until she married an old high school friend, Robert Strange Bridgers (Bobby). She and Bobby had 5 very special years together until his death in 2002.
Anne was a lifelong member of St. James Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild for many years. She was a member of the Surf Club, the Carolina Yacht Club, Cape Fear Country Club and the Colonial Dames. She was an avid bridge player, she enjoyed arranging flowers and she loved to dance. Through it all, Anne was surrounded by many, many wonderful friends.
She was predeceased by her special grandmother, Mrs. Johnnie Gause Cumming; her parents, Frederick and Anne Burr; her infant son, Preston; her first husband, Muck; and her second husband, Bobby.
She is survived by her sons, Crae and Freddy, whom she adored and who adored her in return; her daughters-in-law, Lynn Bode Dunn and Florence Jeffress Dunn; her grandchildren, Murdoch MacRae Dunn, III, Emlyn Colmant Dunn, Frederick Burr Dunn, Jr. and Florence Spruill Dunn; her Bridgers step-children, Holmes Ramsey, Haywood Hilliard, Sue Williams and Rob Bridgers.
Anne's life was the embodiment of the belief that when one door closes, another is opened. As each chapter of her life ended, she allowed herself a brief adjustment period then went forth to see what the next chapter had in store. She was never, ever disappointed.
The family would like to thank New Hanover Medical Group, Ed Link of the Medicine Shoppe, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and especially the staff at Oakdale Heights for their caring support.
Funeral services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m.
