Lon E. Burns, 51, former city marshal of Steele, died suddenly as he reached his home about 11 o'clock Saturday night after he had returned from attending a show. Mr. Burns, complained of feeling bad as he went home, and death overtook him as he reached his room.
This community in his passing experienced another shock in the loss of a citizen, well known and liked by everybody from the school children he had watched across the highway in safety to his comrades and friends on the streets and in this community. He had been in poor health but was not aware of any serious condition.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Methodist Church by his former teacher, Rev. W.M. Duncan, assisted by Rev. M.A. Massey. It was a large funeral cortege that paid last tribute to a comrade and good fellow. The community extended sincerest sympathy to his mother, children, brother and sister in their loss, and paid a just tribute to the memory of one they loved.
Burial was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery. German Undertaking Co. in charge.
