CHISHOLM ' Clifford L. Burnett, 80, of Chisholm, died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 5, 1925 in Olathe, Kan., to Charles and Bertha (Johnson) Burnett and grew up there. He lived in various cities and countries throughout the world. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chisholm, a United States Navy veteran of World War II, where he received the Bronze Star and a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He served in the South Pacific Asiatic Theater and in Frankfurt, Germany, with the 20th Special Battalion and the 6th Tactical Depot Squadron. He worked as a psychologist for the State of Kansas Mental Health Wards, State of Minnesota and the Anoka-Hennepin School District II. He worked for the Missouri prison system as a Gospel Echo Team Minister, worked as a missionary at the Red Cliff Indian Reservation in Wisconsin and with mentally handicapped people in Minnesota, Kansas and Missouri. He was a 3rd degree Black Belt holder in the martial arts. He was a outstanding Christian and loved and served his God until the moment of his death.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanie; sons, Christopher, Donnie Ray, Keith and adopted son, Paul; daughters: Joyce, Penny, Bonnie Jean and Mary Jane; step-daughter, Barbara Ruth; step-grandson, Jesse and step-granddaughter, Jacque; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Samuel Peter and Charles LeRoy; six brothers and 10 sisters.
Funeral: Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at the First Baptist Church in Chisholm with Rev. Dan Erickson and Pastor Kevin Erickson officiating. Military rites will be accorded by Press-Lloyd American Legion Post 247 of Chisholm.
Burial: Chisholm Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Star Hospice, 1101 E. 37th Street, Hibbing, Minn. 55746.
Arrangements are with the Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.
