John L Burnett was born on April 20, 1920 in Egypt, Mississippi to the union of Mr. Anthony and Josie Burnett. He lived in Egypt throughout his childhood and young adult years.

At an early age, he was baptized at Mt. Grove Baptist Church.

John attended Aberdeen High School where he graduated in 1938.

John entered the Armed Forces in 1941 where he served four years in Central and Northern Europe during World War II. His decorations and citations includes an European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with four Bronze Battle Stars, one Good Conduct Medal, one WWII Victory Medal, one Service Stripe and six Overseas Service Bars. He was Honorably Discharged in 1945. He moved to Chicago, Illinois that same year where he met and later married Arline Franklin Blanchard on November 26, 1948. From this union four children were born; Logan Anthony, Micheal, Ptoshia Avon and John Fitzgerald.

John worked in the construction trade for over twenty- five years. He retired from this business shortly after suffering from a serious construction accident. He later went into the hardware business with his brother Milas Burnett.

John departed this life on Sunday, July 28, 1996. He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; one son, Micheal; two grandsons, Jonathan Mitchell and Sterling Garrett; three brothers, Anthony, Roosevelt and Booker T; four sisters, Mildred, Jecolia, Viola and Shirley; and one son-in-law, Wavery Graham.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Arline; two sons, Logan (Fredrena) andJohn (Joyce); one daughter, Ptoshia; two step-daughters, Pauline Graham and Bettye Jean Braswell; one brother, Milas(Nancy); one brother-in-law, Robert Holliday, nine grandsons, three grand-daughters, four great grandsons, five great grand-daughters; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

John was a devoted family man, untiring for the love, care and responsibilities he had for his family. He rests in sleep awaiting the resurrection, which our Lord Jesus Christ promise to all mankind.
