During operations in the vicinity of Domart and at the "jumping off" place, he was seriously wounded by enemy shrapnel in the right side, thigh, breast and left chest. He was carried to a dressing station and evacuated to No 3 General Hospital in Le Treport, where he succumbed to his wounds.
