Obituary. Died of diphtheria on the 24th of January 1863, Edward C. Burleson, eldest son of Major and Emma Burleson near San Marcos. He had just entered his eighth year and was reaching a crisis in life at which his mental developments began to give the fond parents the privilege of looking on and anticipating a bright future, but the flower had scarcely shown its beautiful colors or sending forth its delightful fragrance before the frost of death nipt it in the bud and it was gone forever! How sad to think, how hard to bear! The decree is just and his parents must submit to their loss and console themselves with the delightful recollection that it is his eternal gain. The Lord hath taken away and we must submissively say, Blessed be the name of the Lord.
A friend, A.B.D.
