Anna Belle Burks of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday morning, June 20, 2008, at her home in Blackwell at the age of 84 years.
Anna Belle Burks was born on December 26, 1923, in Slick, Oklahoma, to George Washington and Edna Melissa Ellen (Sill) Gibbs. She grew up in Slick graduating from Wolf High School in Seminole, Oklahoma. Following her education she began working for the newspaper in Seminole. On May 18, 1944, she married Hubert Omer Burks in Seminole and they settled there where she served her family as a homemaker. They later moved to Barnsdall, Oklahoma, before transferring to Pampa, Texas. Her husband's job then took them to Wichita, Kansas, before moving to Edmond, Oklahoma, and later Emporia, Kansas. In 1966 they moved to Blackwell to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on May 3, 2007, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blackwell. She helped with Camp Fire and Girl Scouts as her children were growing up. She enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and Oklahoma University. She also enjoyed birds, fishing and various handcrafts.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith Evans of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Debra Burks of Alpine, Texas, and Deena Marazas of Ponca City, Oklahoma; a son, Dwayne Burks of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; three sisters, Freddie Runyon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pat Salsman of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Kay Herod of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, J.C. Gibbs.
Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 23rd, in the First Baptist Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Michael Moers officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be J. D. McElhaney, Don Vickers, Jim Wilkerson and David Haney.
