Dec. 16, 1931 — Oct. 12, 2007
Alta Louise Burks, 75, of Albany died Friday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
She was born to Claude Oliver and Ava Elizabeth (Willard) Haggard in Prior, Okla. She moved to California as a young girl and resided in Napa, Sacramento and Antioch.
She married Charles Clyde Burks on July 23, 1962, in Reno, Nev. She raised her family in Antioch. She retired to Oregon in 2003.
She lived a simple life, never asking for more than what she had. She was known for her gentle and loving spirit. Alta always had a kind word, whether it be for family or a stranger. If she already knew you or just met you, rest assured she would be praying for you. A Godly and virtuous woman, she would be on her knees many hours on behalf of others. Her love for Christ allowed her spirit to illuminate those around her. She was known to many as mom, sister, teacher and friend.
"Mom, you gave so much of yourself, never asking for anything back. Your strength allowed you to climb mountains and soar with wings as eagles. Even when you were so sick, your faith never wavered. Thank you for helping us to see the precious love of Jesus in each of our lives. We know that you are healed and completely whole again. How happy you must have been when you saw the face of Jesus. We love you."
She is survived by children Steven, Bill, Geno, Levitta, Regina, Tammie, Sharon, Mollie and Trina; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Leroy Haggard.
Visitation and memorial service were today at Oak Creek Christian Center.
Twin Oaks Funeral Home & Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
