Wifebeater Faces Charge of Murder.
Mrs. Frank Burkholder Died of Beating Given Her by Her Husband.
Mrs. Kathryn Burke Burkholder died Wednesday morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Decker in Garrett as the result of injuries to the brain tissue, as revealed in an autopsy performed by Dr. Alexander Solosko of Salisbury in the undertaking establishment of H. R. Konhaus, in Meyersdale. The unfortunate woman's injuries resulted from a terrible beating given her by her husband about 4:30 last Saturday afternoon in their home. After the beating she took refuge in the home of the Decker family where she was cared for until death relieved her suffering. Frank Burkholder, 43, the brutal wife beater, was arrested on the charge of murder at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon, at his home, by Pvt. O'Mara of the State police who first took him to the Meyersdale lockup and later to the county jail. Officers allege that Burkholder admitted to O'Mara and Corner P.C. Dosch, that he did the fatal beating while in a rage when he returned to his home last Saturday afternoon, after he had been drinking. Mrs. Burkholder, aged 38, was born at Harmon, W. Va., July 14, 1907, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Burke of Rockwood. She is survived by her husband and two children - Wilma Burkholder Werner and Richard all living in Garrett. Private funeral services will be held at the Konhaus Funeral Home, Meyersdale, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with Rev. John Hornstine officiating. Burial will be made in Highland View Cemetery under the direction of H. R. Konhaus.
