Margerie P. Abe, 91, a resident of the Moran Manor Health Care Center, Westernport, formerly of Piedmont, W.Va., died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the nursing home.

Born on July 29, 1916, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late E. G. and Bessie R. (McCray) Burkhart. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Abe, on May 16, 1984; by one son, Douglas Abe; one daughter, Ruth Pearl Abe; two brothers, Billy Burkhart and Albert Burkhart; and four sisters, Thelma Ruble, Mary Twig, Pauline Chaput and Stella Wagner.

Mrs. Abe was a homemaker who enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, and quilting and was Protestant by faith.

Surviving are three sons, Charles N. Abe and Dale L. Abe, both of Piedmont, and James E. Abe, of Terra Alta, W.Va.; four daughters, Carol Ann Buck, of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Shirley Jean Harden, of Hampshire County, W.Va., Frances M. Spencer, of Inwood, W.Va., and Bessie M. Abe, of Piedmont; three sisters, Leona Comer, of Shenandoah, Va., Frances Orndorff and Myrtle Dixon, both of Ridgeley, W.Va.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, March 26, from noon to 1 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, March 26, immediately following the visitation, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James "Sonny" Dodds officiating.

Interment will be in the Abe Family Cemetery, Wiley Ford, W.Va.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to The American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22331.

The family of Mrs. Abe would like to express it's appreciation and gratitude to the staff and caregivers at the Moran Manor Health Care Center for the attention and tenderness shown to her during the eight years that she was a resident there.
