CROWLEY -- C.B. Burkham, 82, a retired senior marketing representative for Exxon Company, USA, passed from this life Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, at a Fort Worth hospital.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes. Burial: Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Mr. Burkham was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Panther's Chapel, near Talco, in East Texas, and graduated from DeKalb High School. He served during World War II in the Fleet Post Office Section of the U.S. Navy. His postal area included the Pacific, San Francisco, Guam and the Philippines. After his Naval service, he married Evelyn Andrews on Sept. 14, 1947. During the 36 years he worked for Exxon, he won numerous awards for setting outstanding sales records in the Exxon Southwest District. He served as a vice-chairman of the Oil Information Committee, a national association designed to enhance public awareness of the oil industry. After his retirement from Exxon, he served for six years as an assistant vice-president of collateral and inspection for Southside Bank in Tyler.
For several years, Mr. Burkham served as pulpit preacher for the Blodgett church of Christ in Blodgett, Texas. Subsequently, he served as an elder at North Jefferson Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant, and later as an elder at Travis Street Church of Christ in Sherman. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Everman Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. and Angie Wooten Burkham; and his brother, W.E. "Bill" Burkham.
Survivors: Wife of 57 years, Evelyn A. Burkham of Crowley; his daughter and son-in-law, Janis Burkham Dukes and Carl L. Dukes of Burleson; his son, Lyndell R. Burkham of Corpus Christi; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
