Burke, Alejandra "Alex" (Lara)

Alejandra Burke (Lara) "Alex" 1969 - 2008 Doughty-Calhoun-O'Meara The love of my life and soul mate went to our Lord on Tuesday, November 13, 2008. Alex was my safe harbor in the stormy seas of life. She brought me so much love and happiness. She was a great friend, sister, daughter, cousin, wife and mother even though our children weren't from her. She took my children as her own. She loved, worried over and nurtured them. She had high hopes that they would grow up to be good, caring and responsible adults. I hope I can still fulfill our dreams for them on my own. Alex had many friends especially from her years of working at Stockdale Six Movie Theaters and the banking industry. She worked very hard and had pride in her work. She loved to watch movies, to grow roses, African violets and orchids, and she loved Labs. Her first dog was Koko a brown lab/border collie, she just passed on October 31, 2008. Koko was her companion for 12 years. She also loved to shop especially for our two little girls. To relax she would sew and cross stitch. Alex was born in Mexico and came to American when she was 9. Through hard work and perseverance she achieved the American Dream. I want to personally thank her many friends, co-workers and family that brought her so much joy over the years. I also want to thank all of our neighbors, fellow parishioners of Christ the King Church, the teachers and staff at Alamondale Elementary and Centennial H.S., our friends with Boy Scout Trooop 80, and all of the employees at Kern Federal Credit Union for all of your love and support. Alex was preceded in joining our Lord by her father, Dagoberto Lara and her beloved Koko. She is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Catherine, Patrick, Caitlin and Colleen; her mother, Amanda Lara; sister, Amanda Dixon and husband, Ronnie and their son, James; and her sister, Kristina Lara. Honey, we all miss you so much, please watch over and guide us as we continue down the road of life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at Kern Federal Credit Union, 1717 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield for Relay for Life in memory of Alex Burke. A viewing with a Rosary will be recited on Sunday, November 16th, 6:00 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1800 Bedford Way. A Funeral/Mass will be held on Monday, November 17th, 10:00 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
