Bertha A. Bowshier, 77, of Enola, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
Bertha was born to the late Kathryn E. (Gardner) Burke and Edward Burke on August 22, 1930 in Enola. Bertha was a retired Director of Activities for the Cumber-land County Nursing Home. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Enola. Bertha was affiliated with the Democratic Political Party for 48 years and served as East Pennsboro Twp. Democratic Committee Woman for the past 36 years. She received the Lifetime Appreciation Award in recognition of service to the Cumberland County Democratic Party as a Committee Woman in the Upper Precinct of East Pennsboro Twp. She was a Volunteer at the Lebanon VA Medical Center, and served as Deputy to all VA Medical Centers. She received Volunteer of the Year Award from Penn State University; was Past President and Life-time Parks & Recreation Board Member "Emerita" of East Pennsboro Twp.; Past President of Enola Sportsmen's Association Ladies Auxiliary; Past President of Wormleysburg VFW Post 1462; Past Chapter President of American War Mothers; Past State President American War Mothers of PA; Post Supreme National President Supreme Cootiettes; Past President of Marysville Lioness Club; East Pennsboro Senior Center; Lemoyne Senior Center; East Pennsboro Golden Age Club; Life Member of Lower Allen VFW; Past President and member of Enola American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 751 for 39 years; Marysville Lions Club; Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #1299; Women of the Moose Chapter 327; Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society, Inc., with 27 years of service; Cootie member of Pup Tent California; Mechanicsburg DAVA; and a Life member of the Capital Area Chapter of the PA Sports Hall of Fame.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn A. DePuy and spouse, William of Enola; sons, George A. Green II and spouse, Elaine of Mechanicsburg, Edward Green and spouse, Beth of Mechanicsburg, Larry W. Green and spouse, Jennifer of Torrance, CA; grandchildren, Sheri Miller and spouse, Jason of Enola, Christopher DePuy and spouse, Heather of Enola, Molly and Erin Green of Torrance, CA, Tricia Green of New Cumberland, Shawn Williams and spouse, Kim of New Cumberland, Mykel Ireland of Mechanicsburg; great-grandchildren, Autumn, Leah and Ella Miller of Enola, Hunter Green of New Cumberland; a sister, Shirley Messinger and spouse, R. L. of Marysville; a niece, Judy Shippel of Marina del Rey, CA; a nephew, Robert Messinger and spouse, Andrea of Los Angeles, CA; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Bertha enjoyed going to the Senators baseball games, the Senior Center, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008 in Zion Lutheran Church, 265 N. Enola Drive, Enola. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Viewings will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, February 18th and from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, both at her church.
The Richardson Funeral Home of Enola, is handling the arrangements.

Bertha belonged to so many civic groups I thought she should just have a Gold Star for being an asset to her community as well as surrounding communities.|
