BARBARA E BURKE

CUMBERLAND ‹ Barbara Elizabeth Burke, 61, of Fayette St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 2, 1938, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Eleanor (Wilmont) Smith. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Jane Griese.

Mrs. Burke was retired from the Allegany County Board of Education, where she was responsible for the G.E.D. program and the Teen Parenting program. She also was a jewelry sales associate for Finley Jewelry Sales. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. She was a 1956 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where she was a majorette and the May Queen.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond Glen Burke; one daughter, Sheila Cecil and husband, Martin, Points, W.Va.; two sons, Bruce Metz and wife, Lauren, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Robert Metz and wife, Sheila, Cumberland; two stepsons, Kevin Burke, Rockville, Michael Burke, Cumberland; one brother, Herbert G. Smith and wife, LaDonna, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Morgan, Nathan, and Brittany Metz, Kole, Kain, and Chelsea Metz, and Kiersten Dillon; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Stephen Yelovich officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

The family requests contributions be made to the Special Care Unit at Memorial Hospital or St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

Pallbearers will be Paul Herring, Harry King, Glendon Michaels, Ed Parsons, Pete Rice, and Fred Shearer.
