Bruce was born in Manchester on September 19, 1948, son of the late Clarence and Marie (Scarlato) Burke.
He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the University of Connecticut, where he received a full academic scholarship.
Bruce served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement in December 2013, Bruce was employed by the Mass Mutual Insurance Company for fourteen years and the Aetna Insurance Company for twenty-six years.
With his wife, Bruce is survived by his three children, Whitney Becker and her husband, Brian, of Manchester, Brian Burke and his wife, Kelly, of South Windsor, and Kyle Alexander and her husband, Marlon, of South Pasadena, California. Along with the time he spent with his wife and children, he treasured the special moments he had with his five grandchildren, Camden and Natalie Becker and Kayden, Ethan and Ayla Burke, along with his cherished dogs, Rudy and Rocco. In addition, his sister, Judy Wright, and her husband, Richard, of Manchester and many close brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends mourn his loss. We're going to miss him at the family card games. Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his brother, Clarence (Joe) Burke, Jr.
A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
Burial with full military honors accorded will follow in the East Cemetery, Manchester.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
