Muriel B. Cornwall, of 2030 Laural St., Stroudsburg, died on Aug. 8. She was the wife of the late Rae D. Cornwall.
Born in Lowell, Mass., she was the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Shaw) Burke.
She was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stroudsburg. She was formerly business manager and served on many committees of the church. She received her degree of bachelor of science in education from the former Lowell Teachers College, now Lowell University, in Lowell, Mass., in 1943.
She taught in the Smithfield Elementary School of the East Stroudsburg School District and in Graniteville, Mass., within the Westford School District.
Volunteering for over 30 years with Monroe County Meals on Wheels, she served on the board as treasurer for many of them but also had a term as president and delivered the meals for several years.
She also volunteered with Lutheran Brotherhood (now Trivent Financial for Lutherans) as treasurer. As facilitator for AARP she served five counties. She volunteered in the Ecumenical Ministry of St. John's and in the Stroudsburg Council of Churches. She had been active in the Eastern Star and in Rainbow for Girls, holding local and state offices.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Harvie, and her husband, Robert Harvie; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. There are two sisters-in-law, Bertha Cornwall and Ivy Cornwall, surviving.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth St., Stroudsburg. The Rev. Gail H. Kees will officiate. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Memorial donations may be made to Monroe County Meals on Wheels, 9 North Ninth St., Stroudsburg, or to St. John's Lutheran Church, 9 North Ninth St., Stroudsburg.
