Velma Inez Bryson; 75 of Kingston, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009 at the hospital in Durant.
Velma was born on December 7, 1933, Turner County, Georgia, to the late Joseph Jackson Burgess and Beulah Ann Howell Burgess. She was raised and lived most of her life in Atlanta, Georgia, and in 2000 she moved to Kingston where she lived the rest of her life.
She married Tommy Virgil Bryson, Sr. on January 15, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1993. She was a member of Buncombe Creek Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society (Buncombe Babes) and the Texoma Baptist Church in Buncombe Creek. Velma enjoyed exercising, doing puzzles, the Buncombe Babes, and Bingo at Buncombe Creek Community Center.
Velma loved all her many friends, she is survived by children: Tommy V. Bryson, Jr., Stockbrigde, GA brothers: Floyd Burgess and wife, Orbenia, Lilburn, GA, Monroe Burgess and wife, Mary, Lizella, GA, Jesse Burgess and wife, Mary Lois, Covington, GA; sisters: Lula May Walker, Warner Robins, GA, Cora Fay Foster and husband, Herman, Fitzgerald, GA, Janelle Hadley and husband, Bill, Kingston, OK, Annelle Maddox and husband, Jerry, Eatonton, GA grandson; Tommy Bryson III, Jonesboro, GA; great grandson: Tommy Bryson IV, Lyons, GA. A host of nieces and nephews.
Memorials may he made to the Buncombe, Creek Volunteer Fire Department or Texoma Baptist Church Youths summer camp. Funeral services will be held on Wed. Sept. 30, 2009 at 2:00PM at Ward's Fairview Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Tues. Sept. 29, 2009 from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Horis A.
