Father Burgess bade a happy adieu to wife, sons and daughters, and departed from the shores of time on Tuesday. He was a true christian and his patience and trust during his illness gave us one more proof of the reality of christianity. He was often heard to say "I am only waiting to be called, I am ready.

Obituary.

Henry Burgess was born in the State of Virginia, July 18, 1825, and departed this life May 24, 1892, aged 66 years, 9 months and 26 days.

When 18 years of age the subject of this notice made a public profession of faith in Christ. At the age of 24 he was united in marriage to Miss Missouri Saint and settled in Brownsville, Penn., and there reared their family. In 1860 he, with his family, moved to the state of Iowa and settled in the city of Waukon (sic). In the year 1878 the family moved to Republic county (sic), Kansas, settling for a time at Seapo, and finally at Wayne, and through these changes of life Father Burgess, exemplified his abiding faith in the Son of God, and on the evening of the 24th his gentle spirit took its flight to the spirit world.

Father Burgess has left a faithful companion and five children and numerous friends to mourn their loss. The funeral was preached by the writer (by request of the deceased) assisted by the pastor of the Evangelical Church of Wayne, to a large and attentive congregation, from the text, "I have fought a good fight, I have finished by course, I have kept the faith." - 2nd Tim. 4-7.
